About JNV Pachpadra

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pachpadra is a fully residential, co-educational school affiliated with the CBSE and run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Our own school was established at Pachpadra, in Barmer district, Rajasthan, and has served the surrounding villages ever since: teaching, boarding and looking after students from Class VI to Class XII.

The idea was a simple one: a child from a village should not have to settle for less than a child from a city. The National Policy on Education, 1986 promised one such school in every district, residential and within the reach of an ordinary family, with places decided by an entrance test open to every child in the district.

The first Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas opened in 1985-86, and the network has grown across the country since. Ours is the one that serves Barmer.

The same assembly hall, the same house colours, the same morning line-up. Whichever year you passed out in, you would know where to sit.

Teaching, boarding, lodging, uniforms and books are largely carried by the Samiti, and what a family pays towards them is small, far below what a school of this kind would otherwise cost. It is not nothing, though, and for some households it is still hard to find, which is where this network's welfare work comes in.

Over the years our students have gone on to do well in every line of work: engineering, medicine, the civil services, the defence forces, business, and government service.

Every Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya works towards four objectives, laid down by the Samiti:

• Good quality modern education, with culture, values, care for the environment, adventure activities and physical education alongside the lessons, for talented children mostly from rural areas, whatever their family's income.
• A reasonable level of competence in three languages.
• National integration, through students moving from one linguistic region to another.
• A focal point for better schooling across the district, sharing experience and facilities with other schools.

This website exists to keep our alumni in touch with one another and with the school: to find each other, to help the children studying there today, to elect the committee openly, and to keep our old photos safe in one place.
